We have taken on a Carpentry Apprentice in September 2014 See more »

I have been employed by Barnes Construction since September 2014 and been enrolled on an Apprenticeship course at Otley to learn carpentry. I am really enjoying the opportunities that Barnes are giving me and appreciate that they have given me a mentor to help me learn. I am hoping to do well and pass all my exams and looking forward to a good career with Barnes.

Management Trainee Programme

We operate a management trainee programme which since inception has provided 37 professionally qualified staff See more »

My company has supported my career with day release, financial contribution and mentoring towards my university studies culminating in the achievement of a BSc (Hons) Class 1 in Construction Management

Jake Waggott - 03 December 2014

Barnes Construction, through their Management Trainee Programme, have supported me both financially and academically in my training, as well as providing me with high quality mentoring throughout, enabling me to achieve a BSc (Hons) Class 2:1 in Construction Management.

Courtney David - 03 December 2014

I am now in my second year as a Management Trainee at Barnes Construction. For my training, I get the opportunity to work in Estimating, Design Management, Quantity Surveying and on Site. This way I get to learn how the whole Business operates and try out each area before I have to make a decision about how I wish to develop my future career. As well as developing a practical knowledge and gaining valuable experience in the workplace, Barnes put each trainee through a part time degree in Construction Management which is part funded. This is a fantastic opportunity to have half of the costs of your degree funded, and to be supported by very experienced staff throughout your degree and work based training. Everyone at Barnes is supportive and friendly, always happy to help and give a trainee their time to explain different methods and techniques involved in their job. The family atmosphere at Barnes makes it a brilliant place to work and to start your career in the Construction industry. Each trainee is a long term investment for the Company; several are now in senior management positions. For a well-supported and brilliant start to your career in the industry, I would highly recommend Barnes Construction's Management Trainee Scheme.

Finding myself in the unfortunate situation of having to move house 3 times in 18 months, I was totally surprised and pleased to receive an amazing bouquet of flowers from Barnes Construction for my latest ( and hopefully last) house move. As I have only been employed by Barnes since May 2014, the company has escaped the previous two house moves, much to their relief I'm sure! It is a lovely gesture which is greatly appreciated when coping with such a stressful and arduous task.
