What we're talking about...

Strident Invests in its People

Strident are delighted to have been awarded the Investors In People accreditation once again, they first achieved the award in 2000 and at that time were the first IT company in the UK to achieve this prestigious award and since that time Strident have continued to identify innovative ways to ensure that they inspire and develop their people.

Assessor Simon Allsop left, handing the Investors In People award to managing director, Chris Joberns.

The Investors in People independent assessor Simon Allsop commented

“Investors in People is a management framework for high performance through people. Our prestigious accreditation is recognised across the world as a mark of excellence,” says the independent IIP. Strident is in excellent shape". He particularly noted that the merger of two group businesses had enabled a much sharper focus and better rapport between colleagues in a unified team.

Strident invests hugely in technology and training to give our colleagues and our customers the very best support. In addition, we offer a wide range of facilities at our modern premises, from outdoor break-out area and courtyard to bikes for exploring the nearby national cycle route and countryside. We also have showers and changing areas, so there’s no excuse to not get on your bikes all year round.

Strident Employers of Choice

Strident have achieved Investors in People accreditation for the past fifteen years and were the first IT company in the UK to achieve the award. Detailed below are a number of inspirational initiatives that Strident have implemented within their business for the benefit of their employees and helped them to attract new recruits and retain key people.

Performance Related Pay

Strident colleagues have the opportunity to earn an additional 10% of their salary with a simple Performance Related Pay (PRP) scheme. Teams set themselves quarterly targets using ideas borrowed from the Balanced Scorecard initiative. When these are met then they receive PRP on a 10% / 20% / 30% / 40% split basis.

Open Book Management

Open Book Management ensures that all colleagues have access to all relevant company information. Strident is very much a Theory Y company (McGregor, 1960) and trusts colleagues to use this information to maximise their contribution to shared goals. As a technology company they are increasingly using internal social media tools to embed this ethos in all processes.

Loyalty Reward

When a colleague has been with the company for 5 years they then join the 'Strident Loyalty Club'. Each year on their anniversary of joining they get a loyalty reward. The average length of service at Strident is 7.5 years and growing. Their first employee - Senior Systems Engineer Wayne Lanchester - has been with them for 22 years.

Heroes and Zeroes

Colleagues and customers are encouraged to submit Hero nominations when they see others going above and beyond what is normally required. Zero nominations are the opposite and usually for fun only. All nominations are announced and recognised at a monthly company 'Final Friday' lunchtime Pizza Party. Heroes and & Zeroes and the company Ideas scheme are managed by the Lumberjacks a colleague team taking time out using Covey's 'sharpening the saw' ideas approach.

Ideas Scheme

All Strident colleagues are required to regularly contribute ideas on how the company and its employees can work better. Every suggestion - no matter how seemingly bizarre - earns the colleague £5. More rewards come later if the idea is implemented.

Healthy Eating

Strident encourages healthy eating. It doesn't always work, we provide free fruit for everyone which is a healthy alternative to chocolate or biscuits.

Colleague of the Month

All colleagues nominate Heroes and then they help to decide who deserves to be overall Colleague of the Month.
