David Miller Architects - Class of Their Own

Helping Young People into Work and Trading for Good

Over 30 Work Experience Placements

David Miller Architects regularly offer students and young people a week long placement in their practice. These work placements are an opportunity to introduce young people to Architecture as a career option and to experience valuable one to one mentoring with their architects. In doing this they hope that those who join David Miller for a placement leave with useful experience and a greater understanding of their options so that they can make more informed decisions about their future.

Class of Your Own

David Miller Architects also support the Design Engineer Construct (DEC) programme. Part of the Government’s construction strategy, the DEC curriculum aims to attract secondary school pupils into the construction industry. With initiatives such as the ‘Class of Your Own’ competition, where students are asked to design an eco-classroom for their school, a collaborative working approach is promoted at an early age as well as real experience in in analysis, design, sustainability, the latest technology and communicating their ideas. With this project-based approach to learning, students and staff become the design team, engaging with and supported by practising professionals from across the construction industry.

‘Accelerate into University’ Mentoring

David Miller Architects also take part in the ‘Accelerate into University’ programme run by Open-City in partnership with UCL’s Bartlett School of Architecture and Make Architects. The programme is aimed at students aged 15-17 from hard to reach backgrounds who would benefit from mentoring to support their ambitions to pursue a career in architecture or the built environment.
