CUB (UK) - Being Green and Planting Trees

The Green Team from CUB UK got involved with gardening on grounds of National Trust’s Peckover House! This is part of their aim to volunteer for projects in the local area in Cambridgeshire!

Their Green Team was established by managing director Louis Fairfax to assist local charities and non-profit organisations. A selection of Elm, Oak and Walnut trees were planted over the Peckhouse Estate and Harecroft Road. The Green Team consists of employees from CUB UK who work in all aspects of the business. They all got stuck in digging and planting trees ready for the summer months.

Planting trees is essential to offset your carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. Through photosynthesis trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen. By helping to plant a tree you will be helping to offset CO2 emissions, provide wildlife habitats & support biodiversity. When you plant trees, you are directly cleaning the air. As a tree matures, it can consume 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year as it turns that CO2 into parts of the tree itself. It also releases enough oxygen to supply your needs for two years. These two effects help to give the earth a healthier climate and in turn decrease improve your carbon footprint and help your business on its way to becoming carbon neutral!

Holly Redden SME account manager at CUB UK said,

“It’s great to get out of the office and in the open fresh air, working on fantastic projects for charities like the National Trust. Also to plant trees is an act for future generations to enjoy – one of my favourite sayings is ‘the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now’ which is exactly what we have achieved”

The Peckover House gardening team, consisting of Allison Napier, Jenny Windsor and Janet Crockford. Allison said,

“We were very impressed by how well the team got stuck in to the task; they had never planted trees before and did an excellent job. The estate is a rare survival of a rural landscape in the centre of a busy town and so it is imperative that we replace trees which have died or been removed”.

CUB UK was founded originally as a family run business in 1994, the family values and ethics still remain strong within the heart of the business.
