Helping Young people to work

Class of Your Own

DMA are pleased to be supporting the Design Engineer Construct programme. Part of the Government’s construction strategy, the DEC curriculum aims to attract secondary school pupils into the construction industry. With initiatives such as the ‘Class of Your Own’ competition, where students are asked to design an eco-classroom for their school, a collaborative working approach is promoted at an early age as well as real experience in in analysis, design, sustainability, the latest technology and communicating their ideas. With this project-based approach to learning, students and staff become the design team, engaging with and supported by practising professionals from across the construction industry.

Endorsement

DMA really get the importance of diversity! They open their doors to kids from all backgrounds and come up with creative ways to bring out the best in even the hardest to reach pupils who have been excluded. It’s definitely “opportunities for all” at DMA - made even more impressive by the fact that this small company is having greater impact than many of the big businesses.

On behalf of Heathcote School I would like to thank you for this fantastic work placement that you have afforded to Charlie. During our mentoring session today, Charlie has been able to draw upon this fabulous experience to really pin down why he loves architecture and his genuine interest in exploring this avenue as a career.

Endorsement

Whilst working at DMA, I was lucky enough to work on a small residential project, which mirrored a realistic architectural project. This enabled me to expeience the every day life of an architect at DMA, which was my main aim for this work placement. I was welcomed by many friendly faces in the office, and was made to feel involved in every aspect (a big thanks to Max and Akin for taking me under their wing!). I learnt new skills, including how to use Revit to produce a 3D model, and how to produce a professional document by focusing and improving on various presentation aspects. I definitely feel that I have a stronger insight into the architecture profession, and I am even more convinced that I want to pursue this career, thanks to DMA.
