What is Trading for Good?

Trading for Good has been developed for business by business to help raise customer awareness of the impact your business has in your local community. It is a collaborative commitment involving a range of organisations including trade associations and membership organisations who already champion Britain’s business community.


How can you help me?

Our aim is to encourage small businesses to do more good work in their communities and to reward these businesses by raising their profile and helping them to grow. Reputation is one of the most important factors when a customer buys something. If you do good work in the community, we want to share that information with everyone and help grow your business.


Is it free to use?

Yes! At present, the service is entirely free to use. In future, we may add paid-for value-added services but it is our intention to keep the core service free to all small businesses.


What size of business can join?

If you have more than 250 employees, Trading for Good isn’t intended for you. If you’re under this limit, please do sign up – even if you’re business with a staff or one or two people.


How can just one website benefit my business?

Trading for Good has been designed to operate as a stand-alone website. However, we also structured the data you submit so that it can easily be integrated into other social media platforms and optimised for search engines.


Who owns Trading for Good?

Trading for Good is a limited company operating on a not-for-profit basis within Excell Group.

How is the service being funded?

We are not a government service so we need to be self-funding. At present, we have secured corporate and government grants to build the site and get it running. Corporate sponsorship will continue to play an important role in future. We are also exploring a range of paid-for value-added services that could be of benefit to members, such as access to preferred supplier lists. It is our intention to keep the core service free of charge.


Is the service politically motivated?

No. Although we have picked up the baton from the Every Business Commits agenda, a range of like-minded private organizations have come together to create Trading for Good. Our motives are apolitical, altruistic and charitable.

What if I don’t want to publicise our good work?

Come on - don’t be so British! Be proud of what you’re doing and share this information with everyone. We strongly believe that small businesses collectively should demonstrate the important work they do. By showing just how much is going on, we’ll change public perception not just about your business – but business as a whole. And that’s good for everyone.
